Applications to become a new Diablo Valley College EOPS student are now available in the EOPS Office. Students who are accepted in the program are eligible for a wide variety of valuable services to help them succeed in college, including the following:

  • Priority registration – Be one of the first students allowed to register for classes
  • Academic, career, and personal counseling – Two counselors are dedicated to seeing EOPS students only. This means it might be easier for EOPS students to get counseling appointments
  • Book vouchers – Free money to help you pay for some of your expensive textbooks
  • Tutoring – Free peer-to-peer tutoring available in certain subjects
  • and much, much more!

To be eligible for the program, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a California resident
  • Be a full-time student (enrolled in 12 or more units) your first semester in the program (a 9-unit minimum exception can be made for parent students and foster youth)
  • Not have an Associate Degree or higher or more than 70 degree applicable units
  • Be qualified to receive the Board of Governors Fee Waiver

The program will be accepting applications beginning Monday, July 2nd, but only the first 200 eligible students will be accepted. To ensure your spot in the program, stop by the EOPS Office to pick up an application, or contact your START coordinators for more information.

We’re expecting classes to be completely full next semester, so we cannot stress this enough: Register as early as possible to get the classes that you need to graduate.

writingWith the new spring 2010 class schedule just posted online today, it’s time to start thinking about which classes you need to take next semester to keep moving towards your educational goal. Registration for continuing DVC students will begin Monday, November 30th (that’s the Monday after Thanksgiving). With some class sections being cut next semester due to the budget and more and more students trying to attend community colleges, early registration is a MUST for students hoping to get the courses and the schedule that they want.

For those of you who are a DSS or EOPS student, be sure to take advantage of the priority registration period starting the week of Thanksgiving. Some students will be able to start registering Monday, 11/23, while others will have a Tuesday, 11/24 date. By taking advantage of priority registration, you are basically getting almost a week’s head start on registration. It is your way to guarantee yourself a class schedule that works best for you next semester. To find out what your exact priority registration date is, you can either check your WebAdvisor account or stop by the EOPS or DSS office and ask the staff to assist you.
