A new scholarship has been created for incoming Diablo Valley College freshmen who formerly in the foster care system. Beyond Emancipation, a foster youth support program based in Alameda County, is offering an opportunity for former and current foster youth college students to receive textbook money for summer classes. To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:

        • Be a former dependent of Alameda County and was in a foster home, group home, or residential treatment program at age 16 or 17.
        • Be between the ages of 18 – 22.
        • Be enrolled in a college or vocational program accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), whether or not you have received your high school diploma or GED.
