For  the 5th year, California Youth Connection and the California Foster Care Awareness Committee are hosting a Foster Youth Job Shadow Day and Reception. The event matches legislators with a current or former foster youth from his/her district or region. Youth – ages 16-24 – spend the day job shadow a legislator and his/her staff, including attending hearings, meetings, and getting an up-close look at the important work being done in the Capitol. In addition, youth are eager to share their stories and first-hand knowledge of the foster care system from their legislators.

 About Reception

This year, the day will start with a breakfast reception at 8 a.m. at Chicory Coffee & Tea, at 11th and L streets, where you can meet the youth participants and attend a short program, which will end by 9 a.m. Legislators, key stakeholders, community members, former foster youth and community members are invited to the reception.

As of the time of this posting, Californians have less than 18 hours to register to vote to participate in the November 6 election. And, for the first time ever, you don’t need to scramble to find a voter registration card at the post office.

If you have a driver’s license and the last four digits of your Social Security Number, you can do it securely and quickly online through the Secretary of State’s web page:

In the first four weeks, over 544,000 Californians have registered to vote online, and some experts predict total registration may exceed historic 2008 numbers.

Spread the word. Post this information to Facebook, tweet it, send it to every e-mail list you have. Regardless of where you stand on the issues and candidates on this November’s ballot, participation is essential to our democracy.

With so many important issues before voters in the upcoming November 6th election, it’s essential that everyone exercise their right to vote. October 22nd is the last day to register to vote in the November general election.

To register to vote online, simply follow these three easy steps:

1) Visit
2) Click on “Register to Vote Now” at the bottom of the page
3) Follow the online instructions to complete your online voter registration application

For those of you residing in Alameda County, the Registrar of Voters office will be holding a registration drive outside the Alameda County Superior Courthouse (in Oakland) until midnight on October 22nd.
